The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Rob Lindenmuth and Kevin Appleby:

Well that was nice, wasn’t it! We saw just enough dry air filter into the Capital Region on Tuesday, keeping things bright and mostly dry. A lot of us reached the 80 degree mark, but the humidity remained relatively high.

The forecast for overnight into early Wednesday morning remains on track. Moisture will be pulled in from the south and west, with potentially heavy rainfall for the morning commute.

Overnight lows will remain mild, with a lot of us seeing similar temperatures to what we woke up to Tuesday morning. Again, the best chance for steady rain is closer to dawn Wednesday.

Wednesday starts out wet as swath of moisture moves from west to east. As a cold front swings through the region, we expect skies to clear for the afternoon.

This will allow temperatures to rise into the mid to upper 70s by the afternoon. There could be an isolated shower or two during the afternoon, but the vast majority of rainfall will occur during the morning commute.

Behind this system, high pressure will build by Thursday, a day expected to remain seasonably cool with lots and lots of sunshine. High temperatures will reach the low to mid 70s predominately.

A quick look at the latest on Hurricane Idalia: As of 5 PM Tuesday afternoon, Hurricane Idalia is now Category 2, with maximum sustained winds at 100 MPH. It’s set to make landfall as a Category 3 major hurricane Wednesday Morning along the Florida “Big Bend”.

Closer to home, a strong upper-level ridge will build over the northeast for Labor Day weekend. Temperatures will be on the increase each day.

Humidity will also make a return by Sunday, a day that could feature a spotty shower. We dry out for Labor Day, and the temperatures will continue to climb! We could be seeing our first 90 degree days since July here in the Capital Region, just in time for the kids’ return to the classroom.
